Road Maintenance & Mowing

It has been a very busy last couple of months for road maintenance, and we appreciate and thank you Gilbert Hauanio Jr- Road Maintenance chairperson. We are excited to say we have began many improvements on our neighborhood roads, and also see a great relief of improvement on Aloha Rd and plan to continue going in this positive direction!

PLEASE pay your last years,

2024 Annual Road Fee if you haven't already!

-Dues are $50 per property owned, per year (up from $45)

-Additional donations are also welcome and much needed!

Maintenance of our roads in Black Sands is unavoidable and increasingly expensive. The more contributions we receive, the more improvements you will see on the neighborhood roads.

Tree removal is also becoming more and more necessary as invasive species continue to take over our many forested, unoccupied lots.

Your annual fees pay for:

-Potholes patched throughout our main subdivision roads.

-Mowing and maintenance of the easement/shoulders of our main roads and additional roads when possible. Any project requires materials, delivery, and labor.

Please cooperate and help by keeping your vehicles and opala (trash) on your property, not in the road easement.

WORK EXCHANGE:

We accept work exchange in lieu of road maintenance fees -- we can always use the help with easement clearing. Many residents have assumed the responsibility for maintenance of part of their own roads. Please let us know about your hard work or we will not be able to credit you for paying!

For questions about projects, volunteering, or work exchange, contact Blacksandsassociation@gmail.com

Hilo Street Community Garden- Home of the BSBC Keiki garden club.

Our Community garden on Hilo Street has had such a rewarding transformation, and the fact that the children have planted most of the trees, plants, flowers, herbs makes it more special. We have a lot of little green thumbs lets just say that :) As well as capable of growing their own food and being environmentally conscious!  This Spring 2025 it is the most THRIVING and HAPPY ive ever seen in over a decade.

This Spring Break the Invasive Species Members came out for the second time and led our Keiki Garden Day we have during the Malama Keiki Programs and the kids had an amazing time!

Currently waiting for ripening of fruits but have a large amount on the way.  Looking forward to or already enjoying Mulberry, Bananas, Papaya, Eggplant, Kale, Cilantro, Parsley, Oregano, Basil, Mint, Thyme, Green Onions, Chili Peppers,  Sweet Peppers, ETC!

Mahalo Nui COUNTY OF HAWAII for all assistance. We are truly grateful.

The garden is always open for property owners to enjoy. Aloha and please respect the garden. E Kua Mau Ke Ea O Ka Aina Ika Pono O Hawaii.

Malama Keiki Program

"Malama Keiki O' Black Sands" roughly translates into "Taking Care of the Children of Black Sands." Our motto is; "It takes our whole community to raise children."

We run programs several times a year for neighborhood children to have fun, make friends, and build life skills.  Activities include puppet theater, blocks, chess, dominoes, music, jump rope,  puzzles, roller derby, painting, telling time, calendar reading, and even meeting our Community Police Officer.

In 2024 we started the Malama Keiki Art Institute with Teacher Arenzo Smith, who we will always remember and appreciate greatly, Rest in Peace <3 We are continuing the Art Program and obviously making some changes, and we have had AMAZING excursions with these little artists!

** NEXT KIDS' PROGRAM:

 FALL BREAK 2025 **

All donations and support are truly welcome.
